Google has officially made its AI-enabled search capability, AI Mode, available for all users in India, beyond its initial limited-access testing phase. Now, there is no need to sign up, and you can search more dynamically and naturally with text, voice, or images via Google Lens.
As per Hema Budaraju, Google’s VP of Product Management for Search, Indian users during the Labs phase had a clear interest in asking complex and multi-layered questions about various topics. AI Mode has been designed to address in-depth questions and provide more personalized and insightful results by remembering the context of your prior interaction with more of a conversational flow.

The public availability will comprise all the capabilities of the Labs preview. AI Mode is currently only being offered in English but will be rolled out in phases across India. AI Mode users will start to see a new AI Mode label in both their search results and when searching via the search bar in the Google app.
Some of the Search Labs experiments, now termed AI Mode, is powered by a customized version of Google's Gemini 2.5 language model, and provides accurate, contextual answers to queries by pulling information from live sources, such as the Knowledge Graph and Shopping Graph.
To enable AI mode users can visit Search Labs and enable it. On desktop, AI mode is displayed beneath the search bar with options like "All" and "Images", allowing for smooth transitions between standard search and AI powered queries.
